Self-Purification (Part 4)

﴿ وَوُضِعَ الْكِتَابُ فَتَرَى الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا فِيهِ وَيَقُولُونَ يَا وَيْلَتَنَا مَالِ هَذَا الْكِتَابِ لاَ يُغَادِرُ صَغِيرَةً وَلاَ كَبِيرَةً إِلاَ أَحْصَاهَا وَوَجَدُوا مَا عَمِلُوا حَاضِراً وَلاَ يَظْلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَداً ﴾   الكهف: الآية 49

“And the Book  will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of that which is (recorded) therein. They will say: "Woe to us! What sort of Book is this that leaves neither a small thing nor a big thing, but has recorded it with numbers!" And they will find all that they did, placed before them, and your Lord treats no one with injustice” – Surat Al-Kahf: 49.

We need to realize what we need to do for Allah ta’ala, and the bounties He has given for us.

و إن تعدوا نعمة اللهِ لا تحصوها

Looking at what scholars have said, virtues can be gathered into four characters:

الشجاعة والعدل والسخاء والعفة

1. Courage
2.  Justice
3. Generosity
4. Chastity

Now these are different to the Nafs and the inclination of the nafs, because they are things we acquire, or pick up as a habit.

I must overcome vice by:

1. Will power.
2. Turning to the opposite of this vice
3. Expand your idea and knowledge, especially about what it is that you’re doing. Think about rizq being from God, and you will no longer be Bakhil.
4. Quickly stopping, and not gradually.

• Muhasabah means taking account, or Self-Scrutiny.
• Muraqabah means Watchfullness, or being watchful.
• This means to take account of your obedience and your sins, and to see which one of them are more.

من المهلكات: 

 (1) البخل
(2) الكبر.
(3) العجب .
(4) الرياء .
(5) الحسد .
(6) شدة الغضب .
(7) شرة الطعام .
(8) شرة الوقاع .
(9) حب المال .
(10) حب الجاه .

من النجيات:

_الندم على الذنوب .
_الصبر على البلاء .
_الرضا بالقضاء .
_الشكر بالقضاء .
_اعتدال الخوف و الرجاء .
_الزهد في الدنيا .
_الأخلاص في العمل .
_حسن الخلق مع الخلق .
_حب الله تعالى .
_الخشوع .

من الذنوب الخفية: 

_النعاصي الظاهرة كأكل الشبهات .
_اطلاق اللسان بالغيبة و النميمة .
_المراء .
_الأفراط في موالاة الأولياء و معاداة الأعداء .

_المداهنة في ترك الأمر بالمعروف و النهي عن المنكر .

وقال الإمام الكاظم (عليه السلام): إياك والكبر فإنه لا يدخل الجنة من كان في قلبه مثقال حبة من كبر، الكبر رداء الله فمن نازعه رداءه أكبه الله في النار على وجهه.
